Richard Baxter

Richard Baxter Educated at Loughborough College of Art & Design. 1978-1981 BA First Class Honours with commendation for History of Art thesis. 1981 Crafts Council Setting-Up Award. A professional potter for 33 years, I have made approximately 100,000 pots. I work from my studio and gallery in Leigh on Sea, Essex. I teach, lecture and demonstrate in schools, colleges and for potters’ groups. I have just returned from a very successful trip to Buenos Aires, where I represented the UK at South America’s premier ceramics symposium, making examples of my work and giving a lecture on my career in pottery. I made some large porcelain bowls for Stella McCartney for her Hong Kong and Paris stores and made jugs for Heston Blumenthal’s Roman Feast C4 show. David Chipperfield RA (architect of Turner Gallery) owns 2 bowls. I sell at the Henry Moore Institute, and exhibit widely in the UK at shows such as Art In Action and Art In Clay, as well as selling worldwide via my website. Chelmsford Museum recently acquired a large bowl to show alongside their Grayson Perry piece. Current stockists include: New Ashgate, Farnham; Rye Art Gallery; Leeds City Art Gallery; Dartington Cider Press; Smith’s Square, Bury St Edmunds. I have sold at Bonhams and have made recreations of Leonardo da Vinci percussion instruments for the 2006 Victoria & Albert Museum Leonardo exhibition. My work often appears in magazines like BBC Good Homes, Grand Designs and Country Homes and Interiors, in books (most recently Linda Bloomfield’s Color In Glazes), and has been featured in several television programs including East Enders one Christmas Day. www.richardbaxter.com richard@richardbaxter.com www.facebook.com/richbax
